It's the end of summer and and there's still a bit of magic in the air before children have to go back to school. Why not use a little of that magic and make a party out of it? This event is easily modifiable, so get creative with it! Even make it a slumber party, if you want.
Decorate!
Magic exists-- you just have to believe! Create the perfect mystical atmosphere with some old christmas tree lights (or fairy lights). These can be any color, and you can even add something as simple as dixie cups to make them even softer. With this theme, there is no such thing as too much, so liven up rooms with colorful balloons, ribbons, tulle and of course-- glitter!
Dress up!
The best part of pretending is dressing up. You can invite princes and princesses from distant lands, fairies, knights, dragons, and maybe a few woodland creatures as well. These can be simple DIY projects like a no-sew tutu and an easy to make knight's costume, or you can buy your own.
Activities!
Arts and crafts are a great way to get children creative and stimulate their imagination. Break out some paints and brushes to decorate flower pots! When they're dry, have them plant flowers and send them home with a memory that they can keep and take care of. These activities are best done out-doors because they can be a little bit messy.
While they're waiting for the flower pots to dry, play a game of find-the-firefly! Revamp your old plastic easter eggs by decorating them to look like fireflies. Hide them in the yard and keep a few extra to make sure every child gets one.
Who needs a snowglobe when you can make magic in a bottle? We suggest glueing the caps to bottles just to ensure the safety of the child. You can use jars, or whatever clear containers you feel would be best.
Food and Drink!
With all of these activities there is no doubt that little fairytale characters will get hungry. Healthy snacks are very important for a growing child, but it's still a party so we suggest having a good balance between veggies, fruits, and a few sweets, too.
It's also very important to keep your little ones hydrated in the summer heat, so remember to keep cool water available and also a few sweet drinks just for fun.
