The excitement of a big event like a wedding puts us all into a good mood. But when it’s your own wedding, it can be quite stressful trying to organize everything exactly the way you want it to be. We’ve put together this guide so you can see the major tasks ahead of you. There are also some DIY ideas to help make your day perfectly stress-free.
Set the date - You may have a date in mind, but until you’ve secured your ceremony and the reception venue that you want, the date can easily change. Once you’ve found your perfect venues, the wheels are in motion. You’re in for a roller coaster ride!
Invitations - This is the first time you need to start thinking about the theme or color scheme for your wedding. Your invites will be like a teaser trailer for the big event. For example, a vintage or period theme might warrant vintage wedding invitations to be designed and sent out.
Dress - Your dress needs to be ordered very early on if you are having it designed. Even off the peg will need to be altered for tailoring. The best part of this is visiting all the boutiques and trying on as many dresses as you can!
Catering - If your reception venue is not providing the catering, now is the time to call in some help. Many couples like bespoke menus for the wedding breakfast and enlist close friends to cater. Alternatively, find a caterer or chef who can also provide the waiter service for you.
Cake - Fruitcakes need to be prepared several months in advance. Again, you may ask friends and family to help you out. Perhaps you have a recipe to try for yourself? If you are seeking a professional baker, ask to see their portfolio before ordering anything.
Car - Wedding cars get booked up many months in advance. If you have something special in mind, try to book it early to avoid disappointment. Check to see if your driver will be in an appropriate uniform.
Flowers - If you aren’t keen on fresh flower bouquets, why not have a go at making your own? If your husband-to-be is quite crafty, he may be able to lend a hand. Centrepieces don’t need to be floral either. Garlands and banners in silk flowers can be perfect for a wedding.
First Dance - The bride and groom usually have a special song that they want to use for their first dance. But have you considered the actual dancing? You can take some lessons or choreograph something fun for the big event.
Planning a wedding is hard work, and it is stressful. Don’t be afraid to delegate tasks, and make the most of any offers of help. Enjoy your beautiful day together.
