Shedding Light on Perception.

Marilyn1small Marilyn2small Believe it or not, these two images are one in the same, you are just seeing what that image looks like depending upon the lighting you are viewing that image under.  Artists Drzach & Suchy capture the essence of relativity with their patent pending technique of Shadow Casting Panels which in essence encodes multiple images in a panel, so that single images become visible under varying illumination.

I guess it's true we should believe nothing of what we hear and only half of what we see.  Relativity by Drzach + Suchy.

cozy technology.

Oh Zoe Papadopoulou. Had I discovered you a tad earlier, I would have followed you all the way to RCA. And by follow, I mean stalk. So we’re clear.

But I didn’t.

What i did discover, however, is your project entitled ‘Knitted Shields,’ which I looooove. And even more so, what you said about it:

By bringing together ideas about knitting and domestic artifacts, this project challenges the assumption that technologies are taking over our lives, and that we can have no response. It is as much through the process of production, as the protective qualities of the “cosies” themselves, that the knitter feels empowerment and control.”

I love you, too, Zoe.

Greenwashing

Beijing_olympic_gardens111111111
What is greenwashing? Greenwashing is the creation or promotion of a products or ideals that exhibit environmentally sound qualities without actually performing at a less consumptive level. For example, the illusion of buying bamboo chairs imported from Vietnam over oak chairs from your native state. Yes, bamboo is a very renewable resource, but once the deforestation and glue toxins and shipping fuels and packaging are considered, its much better to just buy local furniture that doesn't require so much processing. Beijing's Olympic Garden

Beijing2
In preparation for the 2008 Summer Olympics Beijing has festooned the grounds with lush sculptures portraying a greener version of China than we’re used to seeing. But artful topiary design is no replacement for creating a cleaner city at its height of pollution. Read the full article.
