Totem by Boym Partners is just a vase at the first blush. Then this handmade ceramic ‘vase’ breaks down into four distinct bowls creating a very unique serving experience. It can make an ideal complement to contemporary dining room furniture. Totem looks perfectly simple and combines both functional and beauty. It could be very symbolic gift as well - it is like a family: each different, but becoming one when together.
BAK Architects is probably one of my favorite Architectural Firms. The JD house, which just finished construction this year, is set in the forest of Mar Azul in the Argentinian province of Buenos Aires. I love the use of wood as a design element in this house. The concrete also adds to the natural theme of the home. An additional design feature is the way the home was created around the some of the mature trees of the forest. Although I don't know how growth would affect the deck, it's definately an interesting touch.
The Bamboo Bike Studio is one of the coolest ideas I've heard of in a long time. Based out of Brooklyn, the studio seeks to promote sustainable entrepreneurship by providing the means and training necessary to build your own bamboo bike and then taking this concept worldwide.
Together with their partners, the Bamboo Bike Studio is working to
establish scalable bike factories in Africa and South America. Back in
Brooklyn, the studio functions as a place to develop sustainable
product engineering and teaching practices that can be taken abroad to
these locations, providing prototyping and testing at no cost.
Through weekend workshops, local cyclists can learn to build their own custom bikes from raw bamboo. The cost of these classes then goes directly towards financing, building, and seeding bamboo bike factories in Ghana, Kenya, and Ecuador.

I am not sure why I am intrigued by the Murphy Bed. Perhaps I watched so many old movies with the bunk folding down in the train car turning the seating area into your own cocoon of a bedroom or perhaps because I’ve lived in old buildings that showed evidence of having once housed one. Either way, I love the idea of a secret chamber. New York based Resource Furniture, not of the Harry Potter aesthetic, presents some updated options via Europe. They are great for an efficient use of space, or just because maybe, you do not want to look at the bed in the living room.
Another wonderful thing about these beds, they do not fold into a tiny sliver which you would need a thin mattress to accomplish. It looks plush as it folds from the wall in one piece. Aside from their twin, bunk, and queen bed versions they also have convertible tables to add to their space saving repertoire. Particularly the modern linear look and contrasting color palette, makes them especially attractive.
